Your head on his chest. His heartbeat speeding up ever so slightly. His warm breath on your forehead. You snuggled closer taking in every moment. How did it happen?
~Earlier that day..~
It was a cold day of December, the last one actually. You had met up with your friends from your old high school and took the train to a small, quiet village just by the sea. It seems foolish to go there for New Year's, I know, but it is a lot cheaper and for your wallets, that was for the best. Finding a spot wasn't easy, it took a few weeks of planning, but it worked out in the end. The place itself was beautiful, very spacious, even for you ten. There were exactly five rooms so you had to pick a roommate for the next few days. Easy and obvious picks. Haru and Makoto, Nagisa and Rei, Ai and Momo, Rin and Sousuke. As the only girls, you and Gou were bound to share the room. You had heard little stories about her brother, who was also in college, but never actually met the guy until this morning.
"(Y/n), this is my brother!" she gestured towards the male to her right.
"Matsuoka Rin." he said as pleasantly as one could at that despicable early hour as he stretched his hand towards you.
"(L/n) (y/n)." you took the outstretched hand and shook it lightly.
His hair was a magenta color, a darker, beautiful shade, covered by a black cap. As expected, even under a ton of clothes, his muscles were still visible. You were pretty used to seeing worked out bodies as you spent a lot of time by the pool with Gou and the others. But out of all his features, his eyes were by far the most beautiful, a bright red color. One look into those eyes was all you needed, you definitely wanted to get to know him better.
"(y/n)! Let's go unpack!" Gou said cheerfully as she put a hand on your shoulder.
"I think we should all do that. Don't take too long, we'll have lunch after that." Makoto added.
You went upstairs with Gou right behind you. Just before entering the room, you caught his gaze, your cheeks turning red.
"So, what do you think of my brother?" she asks nonchalantly.
"W-what? He's okay, I guess." you mentally slapped yourself for stuttering as she had caught you off guard.
"Oh, really? Just okay?" she says while wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
"I don't know what you're expecting, I don't even know the guy." you rolled your eyes while taking out a hoodie from your backpack.
"You'll get to know him soon enough." what was that supposed to mean?
A few minutes later you were downstairs, helping with setting up plates and cutlery. Thank God they had the food waiting for you, who knows what would've happened if Gou were to cook.. It was either that or Haru's mackerel and you didn't really like fish. The meal was tasteful, exactly what you needed after hours of travelling. Once your bellies were full and the dishes were done you invaded the living room.
"It's still early.." you stated.
"I'm bored. I want to play something!" Nagisa pouted. Momo seemed to share the feeling.
"I'll go get my laptop." the magenta haired boy said while heading to the stairs. You couldn't take your eyes off him, but he was oblivious to that. A few minutes later he returned with the device. Going through his playlist, he picked a song and turned the volume loud enough for everyone to hear.
"We'll take turns in choosing the next song." he said while picking up a nearby deck of cards.
You weren't feeling quite well so you sat up and went to the kitchen.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Sousuke asked, his expression showing nothing but genuine concern. This guy had been your friend for a long time now, he knows if something's not right.
"Nothing, I just feel like drinking some tea." you lied hoping he wouldn't notice. The next thing you knew, he was right beside you.
He just looked you dead in the eye and waited. God, you hated when he did that. You gave in.
"I'm tired. I swear, that's all." you glanced back to the living room and caught Rin looking at you. He didn't look very happy. It was because you and Sousuke were still in the kitchen. Alone. The very thought wasn't very appealing to him, but you couldn't have known that. "You should go back, I'll be there in a minute."
Said and done. With your fresh cup of tea, you were back in the living room playing cards with everyone else. You had made a little schedule for the day to go smoothly. You had a little over one hour until some of the guys went to handle the grill. The rest would stay inside and set up the table, prepare the drinks. You had to take in account the time you would need to take a shower, clothes, hair, make-up. Damn, being a girl was tough.
You had played Macau, UNO, even a few rounds of Blackjack, but as Rei was winning every one of them you stopped. How? Something with probabilities. Who knew math would come in handy while playing cards?
You ran upstairs for a quick shower. You let the water warm up for a few minutes before going in. Pouring shampoo over your hair, you untangled the (h/l), (h/c) locks with your fingers. Rinse and repeat. After getting out you blew your hair dry making sure you wouldn't actually catch a cold. You put on a pair of jeans and a cream sweater. You wanted to look good, but still be comfy so this was your best choice. Gou approved before going into the shower. You stood in front of the mirror for a while, trying to figure out what kind of make-up to wear, it was New Year's after all. Usually you wore little to none, but it was a special occasion.
"He likes natural girls." you were so absorbed by it that you didn't notice Gou, standing right beside you, brushing her recently washed hair. When did she even blow dry it?
"I'm not trying to impress him!" yeah, right.
"Sure you aren't. Let's face it, you fell for him at first sight." she said still focused on her hair.
"Not at first sight, more like after we talked." you said honestly.
"So you did fall for him." she grinned like an idiot.
"Gou!!" you were grateful for her help, though. You put on a bit of mascara to make your eyelashes look bigger and your (e/c) eyes to pop out. A hint of lip balm as you liked your lips to be soft. The hair? You brushed it and let it hang loose.
"You look great! Come on, let's go!" she said as she took your hand in hers and squeezed it reassuringly.
"I'm.. I'm not so sure about this.." you averted your gaze.
"It'll be fine. You won't care anymore after a drink or two, trust me." you smiled, you knew she was right. Still holding her hand you ran downstairs to see the others sitting at the table, waiting for the two of you.
He couldn't take his eyes off you. He hadn't been able to since you got to the house.
"You look beautiful." he muttered, almost to himself, but surprisingly, you did hear his remark.
"Thank you." you felt your face heating up.
Gou was right, though. After a shot of tequila and a beer, the world seemed a little brighter and less frightening. It gave you the courage you needed to go and talk to him and you did so when he was alone, in the kitchen. You talked about various things, how was college, what do you think of the place, oh that must be awful. He was amazingly open and carefree and he even told you about his past relationship. You stood and talked for a long time, sharing a bottle of whiskey and coke. You went outside and watched the fireworks, those flowers that bloomed in the sky so beautifully. They came one by one, in a multitude of bright colors. It was mesmerizing. You felt Rin beside you and then.. BOOM! Champaign bottles were opened and splashed you both.
"GUYS, WHAT THE-!" you began, but stopped midway as you heard the boy next to you laugh his butt off and inevitably, you started laughing as well.
"Happy New Year!" you all said in unison as you raised your glasses.
A few minutes later, you were all back inside, in the living room, getting ready to watch a movie. Gou pushed you onto the couch, next to Rin and giggled like a lunatic, but you knew what she had in mind.
"Do you like me?" he asked out of the blue.
"H-huh?" you were shocked by his question, but as the alcohol went through your bloodstream you were bold enough to say it.
"Yeah, I think I do."
"Look at me." he demanded and you complied. Your gazes locked and you could feel his warm breath on your face. He looked at your lips, then back at your eyes.
"I like you, a lot." he breathed out, and you were unsure whether it was him or the alcohol talking, but you shook it off. He closed the gap between the two of you as your lips locked for only a moment. You couldn't resist and leaned in again, tasting his lips once more, this time more thoroughly. He put his hand in your hair, which was sticky from the champaign shower, but you were too busy to notice and maybe too drunk to care.
"You really are beautiful, never doubt that." he whispered as he placed your head on his chest. The others were too busy watching the movie to see what you had done, so you were safe for now. One by one they went to bed, until there was only you and Rin. You didn't want to go, even though you were sleepy and occasionally dozed off.
"It's late, you should sleep." he said with a voice so soft that it wrapped around you like silk.
You nodded, snuggled closer to him and slowly fell asleep. He kept his eyes on you, as you trembled slightly. Each time the wind howled louder, he squeezed you a little tighter, assuring you that he was there. You smiled in your sleep, knowing he'd be there when you woke up, knowing that it wasn't just a dream. Knowing that he really liked you as much, maybe more than you liked him.
