Literature Text

Ah~, high school! It was finally time for you to experience the joys and terrors of it. The halls of the tall building seemed terrifying to newcomers, seniors looking down at you and grinning, knowing what it was like. The classroom was a better view, newbies like yourself were pretty friendly and you fit in quite easily. Among your colleagues was Alois Trancy, a rich, spoiled brat as most would describe him. At first you thought they were right. He was mean and rather insensitive most of the time, treating others with superiority, but as you observed him a bit more, you could tell there was more to him than snarky remarks. You could say you had taken a liking to the platinum haired boy. You rarely spoke, but it was enough to keep you interested.

'Girls like assholes.' that was the general idea guys got in high school. But it wasn't his rudeness, not his money that made you like him. Oh, no, not at all. It was his confidence. It just so happens that assholes are, more often that not, the most confident.

One day you had stayed at school for a little longer, to do some of your homework. You found yourself concentrating better in the classroom than at home. You didn't know that a pair of icy eyes was watching you.

"(Y/n)? what are you still doing here?" he asked in his smooth, honey-dripping voice.

"Alois! I thought I'd work a bit on these math problems before heading home. What about you?" you threw him a smile.

"I was waiting for you." was his short reply. He sounded a bit annoyed this time. Maybe it was just your imagination?

"For me?" you were a little surprised, you two weren't exactly the closest of friends.

"Yes, for you!" oh, he was definitely ticked off. "You shouldn't keep your boyfriend waiting." he put his hands on your desk rather aggressively.

"My b-boyfriend?" you were completely baffled by his behavior. He fixed you with his look for a moment, then his expression softened in realization.

"Oh, that's right! I didn't tell you yet. From now on you are my girlfriend!" he said as he ruffled your hair. He headed towards the door, telling you that he'd see you tomorrow, but before he left, you could've sworn you saw a smirk plastered on his face.

What.

A month passed and you could tell he was being serious about this whole relationship thing. He came to pick you up every morning and drove you home after classes. He even took you to lunch last Sunday! And one day, everything seemed to go wrong. He ignored you all day long. When you tried to talk to him, he would just shrug you off. Did you do something wrong? You had no idea then, but his past had a big impact on his behavior. He was usually cheerful and borderline overly attached, but on some days, he would just shut everyone out. He remembered everything they'd done to him. The things he had to do. There was nothing you could do to change that. This was the demon he had to fight everyday, and sometimes, even he got tired.

The following day, it was like nothing happened, except the fact he was a bit more possessive towards you. After school, he took you to his house to study together for an upcoming test. It was huge! There was a large marble staircase in the main entrance, like those you see in movies. He had a chandelier. He even had a butler whose name you quickly found out was Claude. A very serious fella'! You took your time to look around, admiring the fancy looking furniture and intricate vases and statuettes. Cleaning this place must've been a pain in the ass. While finally going up the stairs, you noticed a picture on the ground, its frame shattered into a hundred pieces, glistening in the light. His butler must've missed it while cleaning. You took the fragile paper in your hands, your eyes captivated by it. It was an old photo of Alois and his parents. Speaking of the devil.

"(Y/n)! What's taking you so long?" the moment his eyes fell on the picture, it was like a completely different person stood before you. "How did you get that?" his eyes were dark.

"I found it here, on the floor." you pointed to the broken glass pieces.

"Liar!" he shouted accusingly.

"I'm not lying!" you felt uneasy.

"I think you should go."

"What are you-"

"Get out!" he clenched his fists, his knuckles turning a bright white. The photo fell from your hands and you ran. You ran all the way back to your house, which was not a short way. Your feet ached, your face was all red and your breaths uneven. But none of that mattered. You were confused by Alois' sudden outburst.

Little did you know, finding that photo was not an accident. Claude had left it there intentionally. You had the right to know exactly who you were dealing with, which meant you had to know both sides of Alois. You didn't go to class the next day. You were scared of facing him. Your friend called you like a million times to see if you were alright, but you brushed them off saying that you had an upset stomach. They sensed that something was amiss, but did not push the matter forward. Your eyelids grew heavy, so you decided a nap would do you some good. As soon as you closed your eyes, you hear a loud knock on the door. Who could it be? You open it reluctantly and you are met with ice-blue eyes.

"Alois? What are you doing here?" wasn't he mad at you? He didn't say a word, he just wrapped his arms around you in a needy embrace. You didn't know what to do so you acted instinctively and wrapped your arms around his torso, hugging him back. He was shaking violently, holding back his sobs. "Hey, what's wrong?" you stroke his platinum locks in an attempt to soothe him.

"(Y/n), I'm so sorry." his voice cracked a little more with each word and you could now see the tears in his eyes. "Please, don't leave me. Don't leave me, too." he burried his face in your shoulder in an attempt to hide, so you wouldn't see him cry any more. After he calmed down, you made some tea for the both of you. He took a sip, flinching slightly as he slightly burned his tongue, pouting when he heard you giggle softly. It was true that your tea was no match to Claude's, but somehow, it reminded him of home in a good way.

"You can stay the night if you want to." you fiddled with your hands.

"I'd love to."

Behind all of that confidence hid a scared little boy. He was trying so hard to keep you by his side that he almost lost you. But that's just how it goes. Two sides of the same coin, Alois Trancy was an enigma and you loved him with all your heart. And he loved you, too.
